LEAVENWORTH INTERNATIONAL ACCORDION CELEBRATION
June 18 - 21, 2009 - Festival

Accordion music at its finest: jazz, popular, classical, ethnic and everything in between pulses through the village as musicians (children through seniors) and music lovers flock to Leavenworth to compete for awards and cash, attend workshops, jam sessions, a film/video series, parade down Front Street and enjoy four nights of concerts and dances with world class musicians.

Competitions, Jamming, Workshops, Concerts and More! The 2009 Leavenworth International Accordion Celebration will be an exciting event – full of talented musicians, enthusiastic music lovers, friendly competitors of all ages and lots of surprises including the Annual Accordion Parade down Front Street! Entertainment at the Gazebo in Front Street Park is free. The Northwest Accordion Society organizes entertainment and Jam sessions in the Gazebo Thursday through Saturday. The Competitions and Concerts are held in Leavenworth’s Festhalle on the corner of Front and Tenth Streets.

Children 12 and under are admitted FREE to all evening performances.

Andy Mirkovich was the featured accordionist at the Space Needle Restaurant in Seattle, WA for eleven years. He graduated with BA in Music from Seattle University and studied composition at the University of Washington Graduate School Of Music. He has performed for or with the following: Lawrence Welk, Dick Contino, Frank Yankovich, Vienna Boy's Choir, King Hussein of Jordan, and many more...

Janet Todd is one of America’s premier accordionists, an international jazz champion and World “Old Time” duet champion. She has recorded for films, TV, videos, CDs, and commercials. She plays in everything from polka bands to the Utah Symphony. Reviews call her “World Class,” “a virtuoso,” “distinguished,” “masterful in entertaining,” “a fiery style,” and on Public Radio-- “If you want to hear how the instrument is really fabulously played, go hear Janet Todd somewhere.”

This is a "Must See Show", with audience participation and squeezebox- pumping fun. Traditional accordion music with vocals sung in German and three other languages Richard Tyce, lead singer and accordionist, not only yodels but sings "Drink Drink" from the movie “The Student Prince” with his beautiful tenor voice

Lynn Marie is a Four Time Grammy Nominee and the first female artist ever to win a Grammy nod for best Polka Album. She plays traditional accordion music with a pop and rock touch, including traditional music of her Slovenian Heritage.
